Food & Shared Meals
Food is at the heart of the retreat experience, with Violeta’s kitchen as its warm and lively center. Drawing on her years of cooking experience, Violeta creates nourishing, home-cooked meals inspired by fresh produce from the vegetable garden and local markets.
Her cooking is simple, flavorful, and made with care. The kitchen is often filled with delicious aromas, conversation, and laughter, and guests are always welcome to pop in for a chat while meals are prepared. Gathering together to eat is a meaningful part of retreat life—shared picnics, al fresco balcony meals, and fireside dinners.
All dietary requirements are thoughtfully catered for, ensuring everyone feels nourished and included.
We’ve already visited and spent an week at this beautiful location and know what a jewel it is. Nestling in the hillside, surrounded by cork trees of character, birdlife, and terrapins swim in the lake at the farmstead. Here are some more images for you to have a glimpse of our experience.
The Land & Setting
Set on a tranquil 150-acre cork farm near the village of Pedralva, the retreat location is surrounded by rivers, gardens, cork oak forests, orchards, and hills, all within the protected Cape St. Vincent Natural Park. The sea is close, yet the land feels wonderfully remote—hidden from mainstream tourism and rich in natural beauty.
Fruit trees planted decades ago still flourish, the vegetable garden is abundant, and walking trails weave through forests and along waterways.
Why This Place | Off-Grid, Sustainable Living
Living off-grid in southwest Portugal is a conscious choice—to live closer to nature, tread more lightly on the earth, and reconnect with simpler rhythms of life. Sustainability at the retreat center isn’t a compromise; it’s an invitation to experience nature in a purer, more meaningful way. All comfort and mod cons are still experienced within this framework. WiFi is freely accessible in the spacious community rooms.
Solar energy powers the farm, water is treated as the precious resource it is, and recycling is part of daily life. Guests are gently encouraged to see these practices not as inconveniences, but as part of the retreat experience—an opportunity to let go of habits, slow down, and explore new ways of living that support the planet.
This mindful approach allows you to enjoy your retreat with comfort, nourishing food, and adventure—while knowing your stay has a lighter environmental footprint.

What people said about the last retreat:
“The retreat group was a safe space to be myself again, try new things and have fun! Great company, beautiful woodland setting, walks, Yoga philosophy, poetry, Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga, and delicious food. Back home again, the feeling of being nurtured and encouraged stays with me.“
“The morning gatherings were my favourite. A perfect mix of yoga practice, philosophy, and breakfast. Great way to start a day of reflection and renewal.”
“My most important take away is how powerful can be to reconnect with your inner self and keep it simple. Equally powerful was experiencing the strength of people supporting each other.” ~ JB
